CASE STUDY

Free floating distal thrombus tongue

This short video demonstrates a case of acute deep vein thrombosis of the femoral vein with evidence of a tongue of thrombus extending and floating within the distal common femoral vein.

In such circumstances it is advised not to perform the ultrasound compression manoeuvre which is the gold standard used to demonstrate the presence of deep vein thrombosis.
